Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina will be fit for pre-season training after successfully undergoing an operation on a double hernia.
"Liverpool today confirmed that Pepe Reina has undergone successfully surgery on a double hernia," a statement on the club's website read on Monday.
The Spain international had the operation last Thursday in Munich, having been accompanied to Germany by the national team doctor Juan José García Cota.
Pepe Reina played every minute of all 38 Barclays Premier League matches last season and the surgery had been planned by Liverpool prior to him joining up with Spain at the end of the domestic season.
The 28-year-old is currently on holiday but will begin a rehabilitation programme and the club said in a statement on their website that they expect him to return with the rest of the squad for pre-season training early next month.
